Position Overview
We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated
Linux System Administrator to join our company. As a Linux System
Administrator, you will be responsible for maintaining and supporting various
Linux-based systems, providing exceptional customer support, and handling
periodic call-outs related to installations and support. This position offers
the flexibility of remote work, with occasional on-site requirements.
Candidates located in the Pretoria area will be given preference.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance and administration of Linux-based systems.
- Provide efficient and effective customer support, addressing technical
queries and troubleshooting issues.
- Conduct periodic on-site call-outs for installations, network setups, and phone systems.
- Ensure timely resolution of system and network incidents to minimize downtime
and optimize performance.
Desired Qualifications and Experience
- Demonstrable experience in Linux system administration, preferably with LPIC1
certification or equivalent.
- Possession of a valid driver's license to facilitate occasional on-site
visits.
- Strong proficiency in Linux system management, encompassing a broad range of
tasks and configurations.
- Knowledge of high-availability setups and load balancing is advantageous.
- Fluency in both Afrikaans and English is desirable.
Technical Skills
The successful candidate should be proficient in the following technologies:
- Web Hosting: Experience with LAMP stack (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP).
- Email: Familiarity with exim mail server.
- VoIP: Knowledge of asterisk-based systems.
- Networking: Proficiency ranging from basic to advanced concepts, including
VLANs and dynamic routing using BGP & OSPF.
- Linux Distributions: Familiarity with Debian, Ubuntu, RHEL, CentOS, Gentoo
(competence with at least one distribution is required).
